The Complete Guide to Lake Wichita Park & the 25-Mile Nature Trail

If you're staying in Wichita Falls and you only have time for one outdoor activity, make it the Circle Trail. This 25-mile paved path connects Lake Wichita Park, Weeks Park, and Lucy Park through the heart of the city — and it starts just steps from our rental home. Whether you're here for a weekend getaway, a TDY assignment at Sheppard AFB, or a family vacation, the trail is free, open year-round, and genuinely one of the best things about this city.

Here's everything you need to know before you lace up your shoes.

What Is the Wichita Falls Circle Trail?

The Circle Trail is Wichita Falls' signature outdoor recreation corridor — a connected network of paved concrete paths that winds through the city's major parks along the Wichita River and Holliday Creek. The full system covers approximately 25 miles when you connect all the segments, though most visitors focus on the core Lake Wichita to Lucy Park route, which runs about 14 miles one-way.

The trail is wide (typically 8–10 feet), smooth, and largely flat with minimal elevation gain — making it equally great for beginners and experienced cyclists. Dogs are welcome on leash. Strollers and wheelchairs can navigate most of the route comfortably. Bike repair stands with attached tools are available at both Lucy Park and Lake Wichita Park if you need a quick fix on the road.

Lake Wichita Park — Your Starting Point

Lake Wichita Park is a 234-acre recreation area on the north shore of Lake Wichita — one of the oldest reservoirs in Texas, built in 1901. The park is your best starting point if you're staying near our rental, and it's loaded with amenities beyond just the trail:

Parking: Free paved lot off Fairway Boulevard. Van-accessible spaces available at the west end.

🐾 Bringing Your Dog?

Our rental is pet-friendly, and so is the trail. Dogs must be on leash on the trail, but there's plenty of open space at Lake Wichita Park for some off-leash running in the park areas. Bring water — there are drinking fountains at the park but not along the full trail length.

The Full Circle Trail Route — Segment by Segment

Segment 1: Lake Wichita Park to Weeks Park (~5 miles)

The most scenic segment of the trail follows Holliday Creek north from Lake Wichita Park. This 10-mile out-and-back (5 miles each way) meanders through riparian woodland, crossing the creek on bridges and passing through several smaller neighborhood parks. Wildlife is abundant — white-tailed deer, squirrels, rabbits, and a huge variety of birds are regularly spotted. The trail is well-shaded through most of this section, making it the most comfortable stretch on hot summer days.

Segment 2: Weeks Park to Lucy Park (~4 miles)

The middle segment transitions from the creek corridor into the Wichita River corridor. This stretch connects through residential neighborhoods and passes Castaway Cove Waterpark (worth noting if you have kids). The trail runs alongside the river with peaceful views and several benches for resting. Just before Lucy Park you'll pass the famous Wichita Falls waterfall — the actual namesake of the city, a man-made waterfall on the Wichita River that has become an iconic photo stop.

Segment 3: Lucy Park (~176 acres)

Lucy Park is the northern terminus of the most popular trail segment and a destination in its own right. This 176-acre park along the Wichita River bend includes a swimming pool, playgrounds, picnic shelters, the Wichita Falls Nature Center, and direct access to downtown Wichita Falls (about one mile by bike). If you're riding the full route and want a lunch stop, exit at Lucy Park and ride into downtown — you'll find coffee shops, restaurants, a farmers market (weekends), and local shops all within easy reach.

Best Times to Visit

The trail is open year-round, but the experience varies significantly by season. Spring (March–May) is the sweet spot — mild temperatures, wildflowers blooming in the post-burn areas, and peak bird activity on the lake. Fall (September–November) runs a close second, with comfortable temperatures and beautiful foliage along the creek segments. Summer mornings before 8 AM are manageable; midday in July and August is genuinely brutal — the trail earns its name during Hotter N' Hell Hundred weekend for a reason. Winter riding is perfectly pleasant on most days and the trail is rarely crowded.

Where to Stay for Hotter N' Hell Hundred — The Nation's Largest Cycling Event

Every August, Wichita Falls transforms into the cycling capital of North America. The Hotter N' Hell Hundred — now in its 45th year — draws between 12,000 and 18,000 riders and spectators from 44 states and five countries to a four-day festival of endurance, heat, and Texas hospitality. Hotels book out by March. Prices spike. And the riders who plan their accommodation early are the ones who actually get to focus on the ride instead of stressing about where to sleep.

Here's everything you need to know about HHH 2026 — and why a private home rental is the smartest way to do it.

Hotter N' Hell Hundred 2026 — Event Dates & Key Details

⏰ Book Accommodation Now

Every hotel within 60 miles of Wichita Falls typically sells out by end of March for HHH weekend. If you're reading this in spring or summer, don't wait — check our availability immediately. We're one of the few pet-friendly options with a private pool near the trail.

The Full Four-Day Schedule

Thursday, August 27 — Arrival Day

The Consumer Show opens at the MPEC Exhibit Hall at 3 PM — hundreds of cycling vendors, gear demos, and exhibitors. Great place to pick up last-minute supplies, test equipment, and get into the event atmosphere. Registration and packet pickup runs Thursday through Saturday morning.

Friday, August 28 — Off-Road Day

Wee-Chi-Tah Off-Road Mountain Bike Races kick off at the J.S. Bridwell Ag Center (111 N. Burnett St.) starting at 8 AM. Multiple categories from Novice to Cat 1. The 2:00 PM–9:00 PM packet pickup window makes Friday afternoon the ideal time to register if you haven't already. Evening Criterium Race at the East Steps of the MPEC Coliseum.

Saturday, August 29 — The Big Day

This is what everyone comes for. The MPEC breakfast buffet opens at 5 AM. Last packet pickup at 7 AM. Rollout begins at 7:05 AM — riders line up on Scott Avenue from 2nd Street to 10th Street, organized by distance and pace group. Nineteen rest stops along the route are staffed by over 3,500 volunteers including 800 medically trained personnel. Finish Line Village opens after the ride for music, food, cold beverages, and the particular joy of sitting down after 100 miles. Grava del Fuego Gravel Grind starts at 7:05 PM from Wichita Falls Brewery.

Sunday, August 30 — Trail Running Day

Long Trail Run (~12 miles) and 10K distance from the J.S. Bridwell Ag Center starting at 7 AM. Great option for non-cyclists or multi-sport athletes doing the Triple Threat challenge (mountain bike Friday + century Saturday + trail run Sunday).

Why Staying in a Private Home Beats Every Alternative

Hotels: The Problem

Wichita Falls has roughly 3,000 hotel rooms. HHH brings 12,000–18,000 visitors. Do the math. By the time most riders register and think about lodging, the good hotels within 15 minutes of the start line are gone. What's left is either a long drive (30–60 minutes each way — brutal after 100 miles in 100-degree heat) or a price you'll regret seeing on your credit card statement.

Our Rental: The Solution

Our 3-bedroom home sleeps 6 comfortably. Split among your riding group, the per-person cost is typically well below what a single hotel room costs during HHH weekend. You get:

Planning Your HHH Training Stay

Many serious HHH participants book a pre-event training weekend in Wichita Falls a month or two before the race. Our home's walking-distance access to the Circle Trail and Lake Wichita Park makes it an ideal training base — you can log serious trail miles on the same terrain you'll be riding in August, get familiar with the heat, and identify any gear issues before race day.

The Ride Itself — What to Expect

The HHH has earned its name honestly. August in North Texas means temperatures regularly exceeding 100°F. The route is primarily flat — the panhandle terrain is not the challenge. The heat and the distance are. The good news: the event infrastructure is extraordinary. Nineteen rest stops stocked with oranges, bananas, pickles (a cycling recovery staple), and 15,000 gallons of fluid. Medical personnel at every stop. Moto escorts for the pace group. A finish line that genuinely feels like a finish line.

First-time HHH riders consistently say the hardest part is the mental game after mile 75. The best preparation is training in heat (not just distance), pacing conservatively in the first 50 miles, and knowing that every rider around you is suffering equally.

🚴 Don't Have a Bike?

Unlimited Biking sets up a rental operation at the MPEC for HHH weekend — Cannondale and Specialized bikes with helmets included, brought directly to the venue and picked up at the finish line. Book well in advance at unlimitedbiking.com.

The VIP Experience — Golden Wheel Package

For those who want the full HHH experience, the Golden Wheel VIP Package ($500–$550) is limited to 100 riders and includes premier benefits throughout the weekend. It typically sells out by April 1st. Register at bikereg.com/hhh-2026 starting January 1, 2026.

Reserve Your HHH Home Base

Don't get caught scrambling for lodging in July. Our private pool + game room rental sleeps 6 and is walking distance to the Circle Trail. Book direct for the best rate.

Best Short-Term Rentals Near Sheppard AFB for TDY Stays in Wichita Falls

If you're heading to Sheppard Air Force Base on temporary duty orders, you already know that on-base lodging fills up fast — particularly during peak training cycles and the summer months when the base sees the highest throughput of AETC students. When the Visiting Quarters are full, your options are a generic chain hotel on Sheppard Access Road or a fully furnished private home where you can actually decompress, cook your own food, and feel like a person instead of a temporary occupant of a room with a laminated map on the wall.

We've hosted dozens of military families, TDY personnel, and contractors at our Wichita Falls home. Here's what you need to know.

About Sheppard Air Force Base

Sheppard AFB is home to the 82nd Training Wing, the largest Air Force Technical Training Center in the world. The base trains approximately 33,000 students annually across more than 300 technical and officer training programs. It also hosts the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) program — the only multinational pilot training program in the world based in the U.S. — bringing personnel from 13 NATO countries through Wichita Falls each year.

The base also houses Sheppard Air Force Base Medical Center, one of the largest military medical treatment facilities in the Air Force. Medical personnel rotating through SAFB are among our most frequent guests.

Why a Private Rental Beats the Hotel for TDY

The Financial Case

Military TDY per diem rates for Wichita Falls typically cover lodging between $90–$130/night depending on season and orders. A private home rental for a group of two or three personnel traveling together often pencils out favorably against individual hotel rooms — particularly on extended TDY assignments of two weeks or more. Our home sleeps six and the full cost split three ways frequently lands at or below individual per diem rates.

The Practical Case

A hotel room gives you a bed, a bathroom, and a microwave. Our home gives you a full kitchen (no restaurant bills for every meal), a washer and dryer (no $3/load laundromat runs), a private fenced yard (critical if you're traveling with a dog), a game room to actually decompress after long training days, and a private pool to make a Texas summer survivable. For assignments of more than a week, the quality-of-life difference is significant.

The Practical Logistics

What Our Military Guests Consistently Appreciate

Based on feedback from TDY guests, the three things military personnel value most are: the full kitchen (cooking on a schedule saves both money and time), the private yard for dogs (many TDY personnel travel with working dogs or family pets), and the pool during summer assignments. Wichita Falls summers are no joke — after a full training day on the flight line or in a technical classroom, coming home to a private pool is genuinely restorative in a way that a hotel can't replicate.

🐾 Traveling with a Military Working Dog?

Our home is pet-friendly with a private, fully fenced half-acre yard. Bring your dog — this is one of the few rentals in Wichita Falls where your animal will actually have room to run.

Extended Stays & Monthly Rates

For TDY assignments of 30 days or more, we offer extended stay pricing that reduces the nightly rate significantly. Monthly furnished rentals are available through our direct booking portal at txpool.hospitable.rentals. Extended stay bookings also get priority scheduling for back-to-back assignment periods if you need to return within the same training cycle.

Other Military-Adjacent Attractions Worth Knowing

Booking for Groups — Multiple Personnel

Our home comfortably accommodates up to 6 guests in 3 bedrooms. For groups of TDY personnel traveling together or families on a PCS move who need temporary housing while searching for permanent quarters, the 3-bedroom layout works well: two can share without crowding, and three individual personnel each have their own sleeping space with shared common areas.

Contact us directly at (940) 252-4311 to discuss group rates, extended stays, or back-to-back booking arrangements for recurring TDY cycles.

TDY at Sheppard AFB?

Skip the hotel. Our private 3-bed/2-bath home is 12 minutes from the base — full kitchen, pool, free parking, pet-friendly, and a per-night rate that often fits within TDY per diem.

10 Best Restaurants in Wichita Falls Worth Driving For

Wichita Falls doesn't get nearly enough credit for its food scene. Locals know it; visitors are consistently surprised. Between genuine Texas steakhouses, a thriving craft beer culture, unexpected international cuisine, and the kind of no-frills burger joint that reminds you why Texas has an opinion about beef, there's plenty here to eat well for an entire week without repeating yourself.

These are the places our guests keep coming back to recommend — and the ones we point to when someone asks where to eat in Wichita Falls.

1. McBride's Steakhouse — For the Full Texas Experience

McBride's is the benchmark for Wichita Falls steakhouses, and it has been for decades. Hand-cut steaks, classic Texas sides, and the kind of dining room atmosphere that feels genuinely earned rather than manufactured. If you're here for a special occasion or you simply want to eat a steak the way it was meant to be eaten in North Texas, this is your destination. Reservations recommended for weekends.

2. Willie's Place — The Legendary Burger

Don't be fooled by the unassuming exterior on Old Jacksboro Highway. Willie's Place is a Wichita Falls institution, famous for big, creative stuffed burgers and a menu of American comfort food done with care. The curly fries are excellent. The country-themed interior is unapologetically local. Cash and cards accepted. This is the kind of place you leave thinking you should have ordered two.

3. Fox Hill Restaurant & Gardens — Date Night Destination

Fox Hill sits a bit outside the main commercial corridors — which is part of its charm. The restaurant occupies a beautifully landscaped property with indoor and outdoor dining, a wine list that takes itself seriously, and a menu that rotates seasonally with local ingredients. Multiple guests have mentioned it as their favorite dining experience in Wichita Falls. The ambiance and service make it worth the slightly longer drive from our rental.

4. Pelican's — Seafood in North Texas (Better Than You'd Expect)

Pelican's consistently tops Yelp and TripAdvisor rankings for Wichita Falls, and for good reason. The filet and the Hawaiian chicken with grilled shrimp are both standout dishes — the kitchen executes consistently well and the staff is genuinely attentive. Multiple guests have celebrated anniversaries and special occasions here. For a mid-range dinner with above-average quality, Pelican's is hard to beat.

5. Volcano Japanese Fusion — The Surprising Standout

Currently rated #1 on multiple review platforms, Volcano Japanese Fusion has built a devoted following in Wichita Falls that surprises visitors expecting a limited sushi selection in a landlocked Texas city. The rolls are creative and well-executed, the sushi rice is properly seasoned, and the atmosphere is considerably more polished than the strip mall exterior suggests. Order the specialty rolls — you won't regret it.

6. Branding Iron BBQ — The Essential Texas Smoke Stop

Every Texas trip needs a serious BBQ stop, and Branding Iron is the local consensus answer in Wichita Falls. Guests consistently call it the best BBQ in the city. Brisket is the move, though the ribs draw equally passionate defenders. The sides are made from scratch. This is lunch food — show up by noon or risk the best cuts running out.

7. Bricktown Tap House & Kitchen — Best Craft Beer Selection

If your group includes craft beer enthusiasts, Bricktown Tap House is where to spend an evening in Wichita Falls. Extensive rotating tap list covering IPAs, stouts, and specialty releases alongside solid pub food. The Great Balls of Fire sub and the classic pepperoni pizza are popular choices. The staff is notably friendly. Good place to end a day on the trail.

8. Thai Orchid — The Hidden Gem

Locals are fiercely loyal to Thai Orchid, and guests who take the recommendation consistently thank us for it. The owner/waitress runs the dining room with warmth and precision, the portions are generous, and the food quality holds up to Thai restaurants in much larger cities. Our guests who have been surprised to find genuinely excellent Thai food in North Texas have made it a return visit spot. Order the curry.

9. Scott's Drive-In — A Time Capsule Since 1960

Scott's Drive-In has been operating at the same spot on Old Jacksboro Highway since 1960, and it shows no signs of changing. Cherry limeades, Frito pies, the Big Scottie Burger, and a nostalgia trip that money can't buy elsewhere. Bring cash or a card. Come hungry. Don't overthink it — this is exactly what it looks like and that's exactly the point.

10. Wichita Falls Brewing Company — Local Craft Beer + Food

WFBC has become a community gathering spot with solid craft beer brewed on-site and a food menu that includes Progress Pizza, which has developed a loyal following on its own. The taproom atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Local events, live music, and the kind of place where you end up staying longer than planned. Also the start/finish point for the Grava del Fuego Gravel Grind during HHH weekend.

🍳 Prefer Cooking In?

Our rental home has a fully stocked kitchen with pots, pans, cooking basics, oil, salt, and pepper. The H-E-B grocery store is within easy driving distance. Many guests especially enjoy grilling in the backyard by the pool — we have outdoor space well-suited for it.

A Note on Downtown Wichita Falls

The downtown area is undergoing active revitalization and is worth an evening exploration. The area around 8th Street Coffee House, Half Pint Taproom, and the weekend farmers market offers a walkable few blocks with local character that surprises first-time visitors. From our rental you can bike to the downtown area via the Circle Trail — approximately 3–4 miles on paved path with no car traffic.

Ready to Explore Wichita Falls?

Our home puts you within easy reach of every restaurant on this list — and the trail is right outside for working off the brisket. Book direct for the best rate.

Best Family Activities in Wichita Falls with Kids — A Complete Guide

Wichita Falls punches above its weight for family activities — it's one of those mid-size Texas cities where you can keep kids genuinely busy for a full week without hitting a single tourist trap. The city has a zoo, a waterpark, 25 miles of trails, multiple parks with playgrounds, a nature center, trampoline parks, a bowling alley, live events at the MPEC, and more. Combined with a private home base that has a pool and game room, a family trip to Wichita Falls can be a genuinely great vacation.

Here's our guest-tested guide to the best family activities in Wichita Falls.

Outdoor Activities

1. Circle Trail & Lake Wichita Park — Free, All Ages

The paved Circle Trail connects Lake Wichita Park, Weeks Park, and Lucy Park on a 25-mile network of smooth, wide concrete paths. The trail is completely flat and stroller-accessible. Lake Wichita Park has playgrounds, disc golf, basketball goals, sports fields, and picnic shelters right at the trailhead. Kids who can ride bikes will love the freedom of the paved route; younger children are perfectly comfortable in bike seats or trailers. Dogs are welcome on leash — great if the family is traveling with a pet.

2. Lucy Park — The City's Crown Jewel

Lucy Park sprawls across 176 acres along the Wichita River and offers more than any single visit can cover. The swimming pool is open in summer, the playground facilities are well-maintained, and the Wichita Falls Nature Center on the park grounds offers free educational exhibits about local wildlife and ecology. The park's connection to the Circle Trail also provides bike access to downtown Wichita Falls and the namesake Wichita Falls waterfall — a fun photo stop for kids who want to say they saw the actual falls the city is named for.

3. Lake Arrowhead State Park — Day Trip Worthy

About a 30-minute drive south of Wichita Falls, Lake Arrowhead State Park offers a different kind of outdoor experience: boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, and camping on a large Texas reservoir. The park is well suited for a full day trip and introduces kids to a wilder landscape than the city parks. Campsites are available for families who want to extend the experience overnight.

4. Wichita Bluff Nature Area — Urban Wilderness

This underrated gem on the west side of Wichita Falls offers genuine trail hiking through diverse landscapes — prairies, woodlands, marshes, and sandstone outcrops — within city limits. The Wee-Chi-Tah Trail system (also the venue for HHH off-road events) has been voted best urban off-road trail in Texas. Disc golf course on site. Watch for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and a variety of raptors.

Indoor & Rainy Day Activities

5. Castaway Cove Waterpark — Summer Bucket List

Wichita Falls' primary waterpark is a legitimate summer day destination for families with children of all ages. Water slides, a lazy river, splash pads for smaller children, and wave pools fill out a full day. Located within a 10-minute drive of our rental. Bring sunscreen — the Texas sun is unforgiving in July and August.

6. Museum of North Texas History — Free Admission

An underrated gem in downtown Wichita Falls, the Museum of North Texas History tells the story of the region through exhibits on Native American history, the oil boom, military history (Sheppard AFB's WWII legacy is particularly well presented), and local culture. Free admission makes it a no-brainer rainy day option. Older children and teenagers often engage more deeply than parents expect.

7. Urban Air Trampoline & Adventure Park — Energy Release Guaranteed

When kids need to burn energy and the weather isn't cooperating, Urban Air delivers. Trampolines, obstacle courses, climbing walls, dodgeball, and various adventure activities keep children occupied for two to three hours without requiring adult participation (though most parents end up jumping too). Multiple age-appropriate zones for different developmental stages.

8. River Bend Nature Center — Wildlife Up Close

This small but impressive nature center and wildlife rehabilitation facility gives children a chance to observe local wildlife including birds of prey, reptiles, and Texas native species in a natural setting. Educational programming available. The Wichita River setting provides scenic context for the exhibits. Worth an afternoon, especially combined with a walk on the adjacent trail section.

Events Worth Planning Around

Hotter N' Hell Hundred — Late August

Even if your family isn't cycling, HHH weekend is genuinely exciting for kids. The Consumer Show at the MPEC has interactive exhibits and gear displays. The Finish Line Village has live music, food, and the electric atmosphere of 10,000 cyclists completing a century ride in Texas heat. Kids who see HHH often want to ride it someday — that's not a bad thing to plant.

MPEC Events — Year-Round

The Multi-Purpose Events Center hosts concerts, rodeos, college basketball, and community events throughout the year. Check the MPEC calendar before your visit — there's frequently something happening that fits a family itinerary perfectly.

At the House — Built-In Family Activities

One of the most consistent pieces of feedback from families who stay with us is that the kids don't want to leave the house. The private pool is the obvious reason, but the game room gives them somewhere to be that isn't a screen — billiards, ping pong, and foosball keep multiple ages entertained simultaneously. The half-acre fenced yard gives younger children room to run and dogs room to play without parental supervision anxiety. In Texas summer heat, having this private oasis to return to makes every day's outdoor activity more sustainable — you can do three hours at Castaway Cove, come home for a swim and a nap, and have energy for dinner without anyone melting down.

Our pet-friendly home with private pool, game room, and half-acre yard is the perfect family base. Sleeps 6 — bring the whole crew. Book direct for the best rate.

Travel Nurse Housing in Wichita Falls TX — What to Look For and Where to Stay

Travel nursing assignments in Wichita Falls typically run 13 weeks — long enough that where you sleep and how you decompress matters significantly to your performance, mental health, and overall experience of the assignment. A furnished short-term rental in a quiet neighborhood with a private yard, full kitchen, and room to actually breathe is a fundamentally different living situation than a hotel room you're expected to function in for three months.

We've hosted travel nurses, locum physicians, and allied health professionals on Wichita Falls assignments. Here's what we've learned about what makes housing work — and what doesn't — for healthcare travelers in this market.

Healthcare Facilities in Wichita Falls

United Regional Health Care System

United Regional is the primary acute care hospital system in Wichita Falls and the largest employer of traveling healthcare professionals in the area. The main campus on 8th Street is a full-service regional medical center with a Level III Trauma Center, comprehensive cardiac and cancer services, and specialty departments that regularly require travel staff. Assignment volume is consistent year-round, with higher demand in spring and summer.

Kell West Regional Hospital

Kell West is a physician-owned specialty hospital on the west side of Wichita Falls focusing primarily on orthopedic, neurological, and surgical services. Smaller than United Regional but a regular source of travel nursing and allied health assignments, particularly for specialty-trained nurses with surgical or orthopedic experience.

Sheppard AFB Medical Center

The Air Force Medical Center on Sheppard AFB serves active duty military and their dependents and occasionally brings in contracted healthcare personnel for specific specialties or capacity needs. Assignments here require DBIDS badge processing — plan at least one week lead time for base access.

North Texas State Hospital

A state psychiatric facility within Wichita Falls, NTSH serves forensic and civil psychiatric patients and regularly requires behavioral health nursing staff. Travel assignments here tend to be more specialized and less frequently posted than at the acute care hospitals, but competitive for nurses with psychiatric experience.

What Matters Most in Travel Nurse Housing

Furnished and Move-In Ready

The non-negotiable is full furnishing — you're arriving with a suitcase, not a moving truck. This means beds with quality linens, a kitchen stocked with cookware and basics, a washer and dryer, and a workspace where you can do documentation, continuing education, or video calls without hunting for a flat surface. Our home provides all of this as standard.

Quiet Neighborhood for Recovery Sleep

Night shift recovery sleep is a specific physiological requirement, not a preference. A quiet residential neighborhood matters in a way that downtown-adjacent hotel rooms simply can't deliver. Our home is in a residential area with minimal traffic noise — appropriate for shift workers who need genuine daytime sleep recovery.

Pet-Friendly — Because Many Travel Nurses Travel with Pets

A significant percentage of travel nurses travel with pets — dogs particularly — as a source of companionship and stability during assignments away from home. Our home is pet-friendly with a private fenced half-acre yard. No apartment-style pet restrictions, no weight limits, and genuine outdoor space for animals to exercise.

Outdoor Space for Decompression

After a 12-hour shift in an acute care environment, outdoor space for genuine decompression is not a luxury — it's a recovery tool. Our private backyard pool and yard provide a decompression environment that hotel rooms fundamentally cannot offer. Multiple travel nurse guests have specifically mentioned the pool as the reason they chose our home over corporate housing alternatives.

Distance from Facilities

13-Week Assignment Stays — Extended Pricing

For full 13-week travel nursing assignments, we offer monthly and extended stay pricing that reduces the per-night rate significantly compared to weekend or short-stay rates. Monthly billing is available through our direct booking portal. For back-to-back assignments at the same facility, we can often accommodate consecutive extended stays with priority on reservation continuity.

Contact us directly at (940) 252-4311 to discuss extended stay arrangements, monthly rates, and multi-assignment scheduling.

💡 Stipend-Eligible Housing

Travel nursing contracts typically include a housing stipend that can be applied toward furnished short-term rental costs. Your recruiter or agency can help structure your contract to maximize stipend utilization for private housing. We can provide documentation of housing costs for stipend purposes upon request.

What Our Healthcare Travelers Say

The consistent themes in feedback from healthcare professionals who've stayed with us: the kitchen makes a real difference (meal prep rather than fast food keeps energy levels and spending more manageable on a long assignment), the pool is genuinely therapeutic after difficult shifts, and the quiet residential setting enables the sleep recovery that hotel environments cannot. Several travel nurses have extended their assignments at Wichita Falls facilities specifically to continue staying at our home.

Furnished Housing vs. Corporate Housing Companies

Corporate housing companies like Furnished Finder and Airbnb furnish homes they contract or own and typically charge a premium for the service coordination. Booking directly with a local host eliminates the intermediary markup, allows direct communication about specific needs (shift schedules, pet requirements, parking for multiple vehicles), and typically provides more responsive support if anything comes up during the assignment. We're available by phone and text at (940) 252-4311.
